The story behind eating rice dumplings on Duan Wu Jie (端午节) is pretty interesting.
A long loooong time ago, a well loved poet called Qu Yuan killed himself by jumping into the river. When the locals found out, they decided to throw in rice dumplings to prevent the fishes in the river from eating his body.
It's one of the few folklore stories I can still remember from my childhood. In my own tiny bakzhang, I've included some salted egg yolk, mushrooms, sausage meat (though it just looks like a sticky mess 😁).
The dumpling is made from polymer clay, and the leaves are made from paper!
